As you probably know, thorough, high-quality data such as that published by the Institute of Materials, Inc. (IOM) is not only valuable in the industry, but it is costly to produce. To protect our Customers and our Company, you must agree to abide by our terms of use before purchasing or using IOM data.  Please take a moment to read this Code of Honor and Terms of Use.  If you agree and accept these terms, simply check the box shown on the website.

IOM Copyright

All products, reports, papers, data and other materials produced and published by IOM (collectively, “Products”) are and shall at all times remain the intellectual property of the Institute of Materials, Inc., and are protected by United States and International copyright law.  Copyright is held by the Institute of Materials, Inc., 4800 James Savage Rd., Midland, MI 48642 USA; all rights reserved. You may not remove copyright notices from any Products.

Limited License

As a Customer, you are purchasing a nonexclusive, non-transferable, limited license to review and use IOM information.  You do not have any ownership interest in any IOM Products.  All rights and ownership to electronic files and hard copy versions of IOM Products--reports, papers, and data, etc.--shall at all times belong to the Institute of Materials, Inc.

A.   Single User License.  The license granted is a single user license allowing only the Subscriber the right to view, browse search, display, retrieve, and print hard copies of the Products.  A Multi-user license must be purchased for each additional user if there will be more than one user of our Products.

B.   Prohibited Uses

1)   IOM Products--reports, papers, and data, etc.--may not be copied, reproduced, republished, modified, uploaded, posted, transmitted or distributed, whether electronically or otherwise, to anyone other than the Subscriber.  This means our Products may NOT be loaded onto a computer network, made accessible by Internet link, through Subscriber’s computer terminal, nor emailed, or made accessible by any other similar means.

2)   Printed copies of IOM products may NOT be duplicated in any way without the purchase of additional Multi-user Licenses.

C.   Referencing IOM Data

1)   The Institute of Materials must be identified as the source of information in presentations or publication materials which use IOM data as the SOLE source of data.

a.   Reference Example:  Source:  IOM Database / Institute of Materials, Inc., Midland, MI /

2)   IOM must NOT be identified as the source of information in presentations or publication materials which use IOM data in conjunction with other data which is not of IOM origin when IOM data cannot be delineated from non-IOM data.


Results of any given test reported by IOM are not to be construed as an endorsement of one product or criticism of another. IOM Products are for purposes of comparison and application by knowledgeable individuals, giving consideration to the specific application desired. 

Limitation of Liability

To the extent not prohibited by law, in no event will the Institute of Materials, Inc. be liable for any loss, injury, claim, liability, or damage of any kind, whether special, indirect, consequential, incidental or punitive, however caused, regardless of the theory of liability, arising out of or related to (a) the downloading of IOM files or associated software needed to open or access the files, (b) your use of the Products, (c) the content of the Products, or (d) any delay or failure in performance beyond the reasonable control of IOM. 

Governing Law

The interpretation and construction of these terms and conditions of use, the obligations of the parties, and any claims and disputes relating to this hereto, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Michigan, USA without regard to its choice or conflicts of law principles which might otherwise be applicable.
